Andretti Global Locks in Marcus Ericsson with Multi-Year Extension through 2027

Andretti Global Secures Ericsson for the Long Haul

Andretti Global has confirmed that former Formula 1 driver and Indianapolis 500 champion Marcus Ericsson will remain with the team through the 2027 NTT IndyCar Series season. Ericsson will continue to pilot the No. 28 entry, solidifying his place in Andretti's championship-caliber lineup.

Since joining Andretti at the start of the 2024 season, the Swedish driver has been a key asset. While a breakthrough victory with the team has so far remained elusive, the partnership has yielded two runner-up finishes and a maiden pole position.

Building on Momentum

Reflecting on his contract extension, Ericsson expressed high optimism about the direction the team is heading after a concerted push to elevate their performance.

"I’m really excited about the contract extension," Ericsson said. "I think it’s been a good year for us. We’ve really been turning things around, we’ve put in a lot of hard work, and that’s really been paying off. The results haven’t always gone our way this year, but I feel like we’ve been competitive and in the mix on every type of track."

Ericsson emphasized that the progress made this season sets a strong foundation for the future. "That makes me excited for next year and to be able to build on the momentum we’ve created this year. I’m very thankful to Jill, Dan, Cassidy and everyone else on the team for the trust they’ve put in me and for believing in me. Now we’re going to finish this season strong, put our heads down and come back even stronger next year."

Stability Breeds Success

For Andretti Global, retaining Ericsson is a strategic move aimed at maintaining organizational stability. Ensuring continuity in the cockpit alongside teammates like Kyle Kirkwood is a proven formula for success in an incredibly tight IndyCar field.

A Proven Winner

Prior to joining Andretti, Ericsson established himself as one of IndyCar’s top-tier talents, taking four race victories, most notably winning the historic 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2022.

While Ericsson's transition to Andretti initially came with some growing pains, the 2026 season has marked a major step forward. He currently sits ninth in the championship standings—a significant rise from his 15th and 20th-place finishes in 2024 and 2025, respectively. He has consistently run near the front, securing top-ten finishes in half of the first 12 races this year, alongside capturing his first career IndyCar pole position at the Arlington street race.
