Circuit Paul Armagnac History

Robert Castagnon, producer of Armagnac but also passionate about cars, created the Ecurie Armagnac in 1952. His idea is to launch a competition in Armagnac first in the form of a time trial and then according to the formula of a rally. The 1st Rallye de l’Armagnac was born in 1953. It all started with this competitive competition on open roads, part of which took place in the streets of Nogaro. The safety of pilots and the public in question, Robert Castagnon, with the help of his friend Paul Armagnac, must find a solution. This seems obvious to him: build a permanent circuit on the outskirts of Nogaro. It was then that an unused parcel of the aerodrome was annexed in 1959 and the work could begin … The initial route takes the forms of the Sebring Circuit (Florida, United States) on which Paul Armagnac competed in the 12H twice (1956 and 1959).
