Malukas brings ‘hunger’ to Arrow McLaren in IndyCar – Kanaan
New signing David Malukas brings a sense of “hunger” to the Arrow McLaren team in the IndyCar series, according to veteran driver Tony Kanaan.
It was announced on Friday that Malukas would be joining Arrow McLaren as the replacement for Felix Rosenqvist, who is set to move to Meyer Shank Racing. This completes the team’s three-car lineup for the 2024 season, with Malukas joining Pato O’Ward and Alexander Rossi.
Malukas, a Chicago-born American-Lithuanian, has spent the past two seasons at Dale Coyne Racing with HMD. During that time, he achieved two podium finishes, including a career-best second place at the 1.25-mile oval last year.
“I think what David brings to the team is hunger,” said Kanaan, who is also a driver for Arrow McLaren. “He’s been knocking on the door for a long time now, and I think he’s finally going to have a breakthrough season with us.”
Malukas has quickly made a name for himself in the Indy Lights category, finishing as the runner-up in the championship standings in both 2019 and 2021. His impressive performances earned him the opportunity to step up to the top-tier IndyCar series.
“I’m really excited to join Arrow McLaren SP and be a part of such a prestigious team,” Malukas said. “I want to thank the team for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I’m ready to work hard and show what I can do.”
The addition of Malukas to the team is seen as a positive move for Arrow McLaren, as they aim to build on their success from the previous season. In 2023, the team claimed their first-ever championship win, with O’Ward taking home the title.
“We are thrilled to have David join our team,” said Sam Schmidt, co-owner of Arrow McLaren SP. “He has shown great potential in the lower categories and we believe he has what it takes to be successful in IndyCar.”
With a talented and diverse lineup, Arrow McLaren is poised to be a strong contender in the upcoming IndyCar season. The team brings together experienced drivers with promising young talents, creating a dynamic combination that could lead them to further success.
As the 2024 IndyCar season approaches, all eyes will be on Malukas as he looks to make his mark in the series. With the hunger and determination he brings to the team, it’s clear that he is ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead.
