Race Tracks in Massachusetts

Massachusetts has a much smaller active motorsport footprint than its neighbors, but what remains is high quality. Palmer Motorsports Park's Whiskey Hill Raceway, opened in 2015 as the SCCA New England Region's flagship road course, is the state's newest and most significant venue, drawing club racers and driving-school students to its hilly 2.3-mile, 14-turn layout. Seekonk Speedway, on the Rhode Island line, has run continuously since 1946 and is billed as the longest continually operated family-owned track in the country, hosting NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock cars every Saturday night. Southwick's 'The Wick 338' is the state's marquee off-road venue, a legendary sand track that hosts an AMA Pro Motocross Championship round most summers. Massachusetts no longer has an active NHRA drag strip or a weekly dirt oval in state — drag racers head to New England Dragway just across the New Hampshire line, and dirt-track fans travel to Connecticut or New York. The state's racing history is otherwise written in closures: Norwood Arena, Riverside Park Speedway and Westboro Speedway all drew big NASCAR and modified fields before shutting down between the 1970s and 1990s.
