Race Tracks in Utah
Utah's motorsport scene is small but built around one genuinely world-class venue: Utah Motorsports Campus near Tooele, a 4.5-mile, 24-turn complex — opened in 2006 as Miller Motorsports Park — that is the longest permanent road course in North America and hosts MotoAmerica, SCCA, and NASA racing alongside its own karting and off-road tracks. Outside that, racing is scattered and local: a handful of quarter- and third-mile dirt ovals at county fairgrounds in Vernal, Price, and Delta run weekly IMCA-style programs, and a new dirt track is under construction near Chester. Salt Lake City's Rocky Mountain Raceways, the state's only NHRA drag strip and paved short track for 50 years, closed in 2018 and has not been replaced. Once a year the Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover host land-speed racing during Speed Week and other meets, drawing streamliners and hot rods chasing records on a natural salt course whose usable length keeps shrinking. There is no active NASCAR- or NHRA-national-level oval or drag strip left in the state today.

Track days and driving experiences in Utah
Utah SCCA and NASA both run their Utah chapter's road-racing, time-trial, and HPDE calendar almost entirely at Utah Motorsports Campus, which is large enough to run multiple simultaneous configurations. A novice HPDE day typically runs $250-$450. There is no comparable second road course in the state, so nearly all wheel-to-wheel club racing and track-day activity concentrates at UMC west of Salt Lake City.
Frequently asked questions
Does this guide cover horse racing tracks?+
No. This guide covers only motorsport venues — cars, motorcycles, and karts. Horse racing is a separate category and is not included here.
Is there still an NHRA drag strip in Utah?+
No. Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, the state's NHRA-sanctioned strip since 1968, closed and was demolished in 2018. No replacement facility has opened.
What happened to Miller Motorsports Park?+
It's still there under a different name. The 4.5-mile road course opened in 2006 as Miller Motorsports Park, was renamed Utah Motorsports Campus in 2015, briefly became Burt Brothers Motorpark in 2025, and reverted to the Utah Motorsports Campus name in early 2026.
Can I watch land-speed racing at the Bonneville Salt Flats?+
Yes, during scheduled meets — mainly Speed Week each August and the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association's World of Speed in September. It is not a facility open for racing or spectating outside of these organized events, and salt conditions have forced cancellations in some past years.
Where can I do a track day in Utah?+
Utah Motorsports Campus near Tooele is the state's only road course and hosts nearly all Utah SCCA and NASA HPDE and club-racing events; it also has a separate CIK-grade karting circuit.
Are there weekly dirt oval races in Utah?+
Yes, at a handful of small county-fairground tracks — Diamond Mountain Speedway (Vernal), Desert Thunder Raceway (Price), and Millard County Raceway (Delta) — plus a new track, Rabby Layton Raceway near Chester, projected to open in 2026.
