PORTLAND, Ore. — Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou delivered a commanding performance at Portland, utilizing flawless strategy and blistering pace to secure a crucial victory and extend his lead in the 2026 IndyCar championship. Palou crossed the finish line 4.1 seconds ahead of Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist, with Will Power securing third place for Andretti Global.

How the Race Unfolded

The race began with polesitter Felix Rosenqvist controlling the pace from the outset, leading the opening 30 laps. However, the first round of green-flag pit stops proved to be the turning point. Chip Ganassi Racing's strategic execution allowed Palou to leapfrog Rosenqvist, shifting the momentum in favor of the championship leader.

While Rosenqvist chased him down, Palou managed his tires and fuel with trademark precision. The final exchange of leadership occurred on Lap 87 of the 110-lap contest when Will Power made his final pit stop, handing the lead back to Palou. From there, the Spaniard was untouchable, cruising to the checkered flag to secure another maximum points haul.

VeeKay Shines, Armstrong Suffers Sole DNF

Behind the podium battle, Rinus VeeKay put on a stellar performance for Juncos Hollinger Racing, bringing his car home in an impressive fourth place. Kyle Kirkwood completed the top five for Andretti Global, leading a train of tight midfield battles.

The race was characterized by clean, green-flag running, with 19 of the 25 starters finishing on the lead lap. The afternoon’s only major casualty was Marcus Armstrong, whose Meyer Shank Racing machine suffered a mechanical failure on Lap 33, forcing him into the paddock as the race's sole retirement.
