F1 Japanese GP: Verstappen leads Friday practice as Red Bull bounces back

After losing his record F1 wins streak, Max Verstappen made a strong comeback in the Japanese Grand Prix.

Verstappen, who had lost his winning streak and Red Bull’s 100% victory run in 2023, topped both Friday practice sessions. In FP2, Verstappen went quickest by 0.320s, leaving Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc trailing behind.

Continuing McLaren’s recent performance improvements, Lando Norris secured third place in the practice sessions. Norris showcased the team’s progress, setting a competitive pace on the track.

The battle between Ferrari and Mercedes intensifies

Carlos Sainz, fresh off his victory in the Singapore GP, secured an impressive fourth place in practice. His teammate Leclerc, who strived to match Verstappen’s pace, finished second, just behind the Dutch driver.

Meanwhile, Geroge Russell from Mercedes rounded out the top five, highlighting the fierce competition between Ferrari and Mercedes in the race.
