History of NRing (Н-Ринг)

A multi-purpose motorsport complex near Nizhny Novgorod

NRing broke ground in December 2008 in Bogorodsk, about 35 km southwest of Nizhny Novgorod, designed by Mikhail Gorbachev and Andrei Kitov of the Moscow Circuit Design Group. It opened on 3 July 2010, built from the outset with multiple road course configurations, from the 3.222 km, 15-turn 'A' circuit down to the shorter 'B' and 'C' layouts, alongside a separate motorcycle circuit, a kart track and a training circuit.

A long-running home for the Russian Circuit Racing Series

Since opening in 2010, NRing has hosted rounds of the Russian Circuit Racing Series every season, making it one of the most consistent venues on the national calendar. Its facility mix, spanning full-size touring car racing down to a dedicated karting programme, has also let it serve as a training ground: the SMP Racing Academy runs karting instruction for children and teenagers on site, feeding young drivers into Russia's wider single-seater and touring car scene.

Continued national use

NRing has not been on the international championship circuit calendar in the way that Sochi or Moscow Raceway once were, and its role has remained squarely domestic. The SMP Formula 4 Championship added NRing to its calendar from 2025, building on the circuit's long RCRS history. Lap records recorded across TCR touring car and Formula 4 categories in the years since opening reflect a venue that continues to see regular competitive use across several of its road course configurations.
