Race Tracks in Sweden

Sweden's motorsport scene is spread thinly across a long, forested country, with clusters around the south (Skåne, Halland, Småland) and a scattering of arenas up toward the Norrland coast. Anderstorp Raceway remains the country's most famous circuit, the only Nordic venue ever to host a Formula 1 World Championship round, while Ring Knutstorp, Mantorp Park, Falkenbergs Motorbana and Karlskoga's Gelleråsen Arena carry the modern club-racing and touring-car calendar. Rallycross runs deep here too: Höljes hosts a World RX round in the forests of Värmland, and Strängnäs and several circuit infields double as rallycross venues. Motorcycle speedway is a genuinely popular winter-to-summer sport, with a dense network of cinder ovals from Vetlanda to Hallstavik, and Målilla has staged the Speedway Grand Prix. Drag racing centres on Tierp Arena, motocross on Uddevalla's MXGP-grade circuit, and karting clubs run sealed tracks from Kristianstad to Lidköping. A number of once-significant road circuits — Hedemora, Råbelövsbanan, Skarpnäck and Skövde — have since closed, and Stockholm's Solvalla, a trotting (horse racing) track, briefly hosted car racing on a temporary street layout in the 1940s.

Track days and driving experiences in Sweden

Sweden's road circuits (Anderstorp, Ring Knutstorp, Mantorp Park, Falkenberg, Kinnekulle Ring and Gotland Ring) all run their own bokade bandagar (booked track days) for cars and motorcycles, typically SEK 1,500-4,000 for a car day depending on circuit and session length; several also offer instructor-led driving-school packages. Tierp Arena adds dedicated drag-racing test-and-tune days. Kart centres in Kristianstad, Gothenburg and Lidköping run walk-up hire-kart sessions and club practice most weekends year-round.

Frequently asked questions

Does this list include horse racing tracks?+

No, with one historical note: Solvalla in Stockholm is primarily a harness (trotting) track and is not a motorsport venue today, but it is included here because it briefly hosted a temporary car-racing circuit around the 1940s. No other horse-racing venues are listed.

What is Sweden's most famous race track?+

Anderstorp Raceway, which hosted the Formula 1 Swedish Grand Prix from 1973 to 1978 and remains the only Nordic circuit to have held a round of the F1 World Championship.

Where does rallycross happen in Sweden?+

Höljesbanan in Värmland is the headline venue, hosting FIA World Rallycross Championship rounds in a forest setting; Strängnäs and several other circuits also run national rallycross rounds.

Is motorcycle speedway popular in Sweden?+

Yes. Sweden runs a dense national speedway league with ovals across the south and centre of the country, including Vetlanda, Hallstavik, Eskilstuna, Västervik, Kumla, Motala and Gislaved, and Målilla has hosted the Speedway Grand Prix.

Where is drag racing based in Sweden?+

Tierp Arena in Uppsala County is the country's main drag racing venue, combining a drag strip with a road circuit and hosting major Nordic drag events such as the Nitro Nationals.

Are there still historic road circuits open in Sweden?+

Most of the country's original public-road circuits, including Hedemora, Råbelövsbanan near Kristianstad, Skarpnäck in Stockholm and the Skövde circuit, have closed to racing; today's road racing runs on purpose-built circuits like Anderstorp, Ring Knutstorp and Mantorp Park.

Has Sweden hosted MotoGP or Formula 1 recently?+

No. Anderstorp's Formula 1 era ended in 1978, and while several Swedish circuits held motorcycle Grands Prix decades ago, no Swedish venue currently appears on the Formula 1 or MotoGP calendar.
