From rallycross venue to permanent road course
Sturup Raceway began life in 1972 as a rallycross venue known as Sturupsbanan, built in Svedala in Sweden's southern Skåne region, close to what is now Malmö Airport. It remained a rallycross-focused facility through the 1970s and 1980s before being asphalted and converted into a permanent tarmac road course in 1990, opening with a compact 1.1 km, 7-turn layout.
Expansion and a change of ownership
