Iowa Speedway Secures NASCAR's Prestigious July 4th Date for 2027

In a major shakeup to the stock car racing calendar, Iowa Speedway has secured one of the most coveted dates on the NASCAR schedule. The Newton, Iowa short track will host the Cup Series over the Independence Day weekend from July 2-4, 2027, marking a significant promotion for the highly popular venue.

The holiday weekend will feature a packed bill, with the NASCAR Cup Series headliner supported by the O'Reilly Series and the ARCA Menards Series.

A New Chapter and a Fresh Surface

Since returning to the NASCAR Cup Series schedule in 2024, Iowa Speedway has enjoyed a massive resurgence. The 0.875-mile oval has boasted three consecutive sellouts, proving that the Midwest market is deeply passionate about short-track Cup racing.

To prepare for its high-profile holiday slot, the speedway will undergo a comprehensive repaving project ahead of the 2027 race weekend. In addition to a fresh racing surface, fans can look forward to major facility enhancements, including upgrades to the fan concourse, luxury suites, and the exclusive Newton Club areas.

The Legacy of NASCAR's Independence Day Race

For decades, NASCAR’s July 4th weekend was synonymous with the high-banked drama of Daytona International Speedway. However, in recent years, the holiday date has become a crown jewel up for grabs, rotating through several iconic venues.

Following its departure from Daytona, the holiday weekend moved to Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2020, followed by a two-year stint at Road America from 2021 to 2022. The Chicago Street Course then took over the holiday spotlight from 2023 to 2025, before passing the torch to the resurrected Chicagoland Speedway for the 2026 season. Now, Iowa Speedway is set to carry the patriotic mantle in 2027.

Economic and Agricultural Boost for the Midwest

The move has also garnered strong support from local leadership, who view the event as a massive platform for the state's agricultural industry. The race, traditionally known as the Iowa Corn 350, serves as a primary showcase for locally produced E15 bio-fuel.
