On July 1, 1928, the local festival committee and the Automobile Club du Center initiated “the automobile festival”, the highlight of which was a contested race on the surface of the D943 (La Châtre-Châteauroux). Founded by a certain Mautice Barret, “the Côte d’Ars race” was soon to be considered “the most famous automobile event in the center”. Open to cars, motorcycles or sidecars, the competition starts from the Lion d’Argent crossroads.
