History of Tor Poznań

Built on airport land

Tor Poznań broke ground in 1975 on land belonging to the adjacent Poznań-Ławica Airport, west of the city, and opened on 1 December 1977 under the ownership of the Automobilklub Wielkopolski. Its flat, airfield-adjacent site gave designers room to build long straights connected by a relatively small number of corners, a layout that established the circuit's reputation from the start as Poland's fastest permanent racing venue.

Poland's premier racing venue

Over the following decades Tor Poznań grew into the country's leading circuit for both national and regional international racing, hosting Polish national car and motorcycle championships and, as European touring car and single-seater racing regionalised, regular rounds of the FIA Central European Zone (CEZ) series. Its FIA Grade 3R homologation and consistently fast, flowing character made it the natural home for Poland's highest-profile domestic motorsport, ahead of older regional circuits such as Tor Kielce.
