Track map and layout
Bahrain International Circuit is a Hermann Tilke design set in the Sakhir desert, built with several interchangeable configurations sharing a common infield and pit complex, of which the Grand Prix circuit is the longest and most used. The lap combines a long start/finish straight for heavy braking and overtaking into Turn 1 with a mix of medium- and high-speed corners threading through desert terrain, and has been run as a floodlit night race since 2014, giving it a very different visual character from daytime desert races. The circuit's surface uses graywacke aggregate imported from a Shropshire quarry in England, chosen for its grip and durability in the desert climate.

Bahrain International Circuit traditionally opens the Formula 1 season each spring as one of the sport's floodlit night races, a format it pioneered in the Middle East in 2014. It is also a round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, hosting the 8 Hours of Bahrain, often as a season-closing endurance classic, and stages regional GT, touring car and karting events, plus the annual Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix festival that runs concert and entertainment programming alongside the racing.

Getting there and parking
Bahrain International Airport (BAH) is the gateway for the circuit, roughly 8 km from central Manama and about a 30-40 minute drive on to Sakhir. Most visitors stay in Manama and travel out to the circuit by taxi, ride-hailing or official event shuttle buses, which run between the airport, selected hotels and the circuit during Grand Prix week.

Hotels and camping near Bahrain International Circuit
Manama holds by far the largest concentration of hotels, restaurants and nightlife, and is where most Grand Prix visitors base themselves, despite being 30-40 minutes from the circuit by road. There is very little accommodation in Sakhir itself; the nearest notable option is a 5-star resort a few kilometres away, served by shuttle buses during race week, so Manama hotels should be booked well ahead of the Grand Prix as the city sells out.

History of Bahrain International Circuit
The first F1 race in the Middle East
Bahrain International Circuit was built in the Sakhir desert and designed by Hermann Tilke, opening in March 2004 with a construction cost of around $150 million. Its debut Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix that April made it the first circuit in the Middle East to host a round of the World Championship, a landmark moment for the region's motorsport ambitions and the start of Bahrain's long-running relationship with F1.
An early F1 fixture and a troubled year
The circuit quickly became a fixture near the start of the F1 calendar and earned FIA Institute Centre of Excellence status in 2007 in recognition of its facilities and safety standards. The 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix was cancelled amid political unrest in the country, and the 2012 race went ahead under heightened security and continued protests, making that period one of the most scrutinised in the circuit's history.
Night racing and today's circuit
In 2014, Bahrain became the first circuit to host a Formula 1 race entirely under floodlights, a format that transformed the visual identity of the Bahrain Grand Prix and has been retained for the race since. The venue's multiple configurations have also made it a regular host of FIA World Endurance Championship racing, including the 8 Hours of Bahrain, often run as a season-closing round.
