A modern circuit built for central Chile
Autódromo Internacional de Codegua was conceived by four entrepreneurs, Luis Toledo, Pedro Ortiz, Mauricio Barrios and Juan Pablo Morales, who wanted a fully functional, modern racing circuit within easy reach of Santiago. Planning began around 2009, with construction starting in earnest in 2012 on a site in the O'Higgins Region near the small town of Codegua, about 18 km from Rancagua and roughly 72 km south of the capital. Architect Juan Pablo Morales, one of the project's own backers, drew up the circuit's layout.
Opening in stages
The project reached completion in stages during 2014: the circuit's northern section, including the pit and paddock complex, grandstand and race control tower, opened first in May, with the full course finished that November.
