Best Sim Racing Wheels

8 picks · Updated 19 October 2026 · Based on 154 owner posts and reviews

Most people searching for a sim racing wheel are choosing between a gear or belt wheel around $230 to $300 and a direct drive bundle from about $280 for PC or $339 for Xbox. This guide covers eight picks across PC, PlayStation and Xbox, with US prices and platform support checked on brand pages on 19 October 2026.

We do not test hardware. Four picks are owner-reported: they are built from GTPlanet forum posts and verified-buyer reviews on Moza's US store and PB Tech, and each shows how many owner reports we read. The other four are spec-checked, meaning we confirmed the price, platforms and what is in the box on the brand's own page but could not read enough owner reports we can cite. A pro or con appears only when at least two independent owners say it.

Prices and sales change often, especially on Moza and Fanatec. Check the live page before you buy, and check that the version you pick matches your console.

We can’t test everything, so each pick is labelled with where the evidence comes from. How we research and test. Some links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you (disclosure).

1. Best overall

Logitech G RS50 System

$599.99
Owner-reportedPC, PlayStation, Xbox (PC Only, PS/PC and XBOX/PC versions)

Logitech's 8 Nm direct drive system comes in PC, PlayStation/PC and Xbox/PC versions. Owners who moved from a G29, G923, T-GT II or T248 describe a large step up in feel and detail, and a few say TRUEFORCE adds kerb and surface detail in GT7. It is first because one base and hub combination covers PlayStation, Xbox or PC depending on the version.

What owners report · from 19 owner posts and reviews we read

  • Large step up in feel and detail from a G29, G923, T-GT II or T248 (many owners)
  • TRUEFORCE adds kerb and surface detail in GT7 (a few owners)
  • RS Pedals include a load cell brake, and owners say it improves braking consistency once learned (a few owners)
  • Integrated quick release and a complete hub and wheel in the box
  • Some PS5 owners report disconnects or crashes, with one needing a replacement base (a few owners)
  • Recommended GT7 settings felt too heavy or oscillated until turned down (several owners)
  • Shaft or quick release movement and clanking on some units; Logitech replied that the movement is expected (one owner who refunded)
  • Pedals are extra, and the base alone is $349.99 to $449.99 depending on version

Understeer feels closer to the real world, curbs feel natural, the road surface sensation isn't just a shake at the centre of the wheel.

I recently purchased an RS50, using it with a PS5 for GT7. It crashed and disconnected a lot, so I got in touch with Logitech support

2. Best for PlayStation

Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro (5 Nm) Wheel Base Bundle

$799.99
Owner-reportedPS5, PS4, PC

Fanatec's PlayStation-licensed direct drive bundle, built around the Gran Turismo wheel and a two-pedal set. It also runs on PC. Owners describe a clear step up from belt or gear wheels and value the upgrade path to better rims, load cell pedals and stronger bases.

What owners report · from 20 owner posts and reviews we read

  • A clear step up from belt or gear wheels (several owners)
  • Deep upgrade path: rims, load cell pedals, and stronger bases later (several owners)
  • Compact and well built (one owner)
  • GT7 force feedback feels weak or vibration-like until tuned, and the default setting is poor (many owners)
  • Not a big jump for people coming from a CSL Elite or T-GT II (a few owners)
  • Since GT7 update 1.71 (late August 2026), force feedback loss and disconnects on some bases with FullForce (several owners)
  • Stock wheel is small with basic shifters (several owners)
  • 5 Nm feels light to some, which is why the Boost Kit is common (a few owners)

The DD Pro is a nice compact package: great build quality, easy to hardmount, completely silent even after longer session

The FFB issue is more of a GT7 thing. The game just feels dull and lifeless with the DD Pro, in my opinion of course.

4. Best entry direct drive (PC)

Moza R5 Racing Bundle

$379

Moza's entry direct drive bundle has a 5.5 Nm base, an ES wheel and SR-P Lite pedals. Owners stepping up from a G29, G920 or G923 call it much smoother and quieter, and several say 5.5 Nm is enough for a desk setup.

What owners report · from 80 owner posts and reviews we read

  • Much smoother and quieter than a gear-driven Logitech (many owners, including G920, G923 and G29 upgraders)
  • Pit House app lets you tune force and save profiles per game (several owners)
  • Base accepts Moza's other rims, shifters, handbrakes and pedals (several owners)
  • 5.5 Nm is enough for a desk setup, and strong enough to shake a desk (several owners)
  • Stock SR-P Lite pedals feel light, have little brake resistance and slide unless mounted (many owners)
  • Needs a stand or rigid mount, because the base shakes desks and the pedals move (several owners)
  • The included ES wheel is small (several owners)
  • Some games need extra setup, for example Nascar 25 and Automobilista 2 (a few owners)
  • Base gets hot after long sessions (a few owners)

Upgraded from a g920 to the R5 and I’m a fan for life. The only issue is my quick release gets very tight and has trouble removing the wheel.

Had a few T300 in the past and this is miles ahead in terms of quality, feel of force feedback, and how quiet it is!

5. Cheapest Xbox direct drive

Moza R3 Racing Bundle for Xbox & PC

$339
Owner-reportedXbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC

Moza's cheapest direct drive bundle, with the ESX wheel that carries the Xbox licence. Owners, including G923 upgraders, call it smoother and quieter than a Logitech and enough force for a first direct drive wheel. At 3.9 Nm it is the weakest base here.

What owners report · from 35 owner posts and reviews we read

  • Smoother and quieter than a Logitech wheel (several owners, including G923 upgraders)
  • Works natively on Xbox once configured (several owners)
  • Enough force for a first direct drive wheel (several owners)
  • Upgrade path with Moza rims, shifters and better pedals (a few owners)
  • Xbox setup is awkward: calibration on a PC first, thin instructions, and settings or updates can cause input lag (several owners)
  • Some features do not work on Xbox, such as RPM lights and a few buttons (a few owners)
  • Included SR-P Lite pedals are basic, and owners recommend the brake performance kit (several owners)
  • The included wheel is small (a few owners)
  • 3.9 Nm is described as the bare minimum by some (one owner, plus forum advice to buy the R5)

Doesn't always connect to the Xbox have to cycle the power button a few times or unplug it, plug it in a few times.

you may want to opt for the R5 or R9 for the extra torque as 3.9nm is almost the bare minimum for mid range sim racing in 2026

How to choose

Gear, belt or direct drive

A gear-driven wheel such as the Logitech G923 passes motor force through gears. Thrustmaster lists the T248R as a hybrid drive with 3.1 Nm of torque. A direct drive base puts the wheel on the motor shaft, so nothing sits between your hands and the motor.

Owners who moved from a G29, G920 or G923 to a Moza R5 or R3 call direct drive much smoother and quieter, and the price gap is now small. The Moza R3 Xbox bundle is $339 against $299.99 for the G923.

Belt and gear wheels still make sense in one case: a PlayStation buyer on a tight budget has few direct drive choices, and the Thrustmaster T248R ($299.99 for PS5, PS4 and PC) is the usual alternative to the G923. We kept one gear-driven pick, the G923, to keep the list short.

Torque in Nm, said honestly

Brands list peak torque. Peak is a short burst, and the wheel does not hold that force all the time. Moza's R5 Pro page uses both 'peak' and 'constant' for its 6 Nm figure, so read the wording before you compare bases.

More torque gives you headroom, which means fewer moments where the signal clips and detail is lost. It does not make you faster on its own. Several R5 owners say 5.5 Nm is enough for a desk setup, and Fanatec sells a Boost Kit 180 that lifts the CSL DD and GT DD Pro from 5 Nm to 8 Nm.

Torque also loads your mount. Several R5 owners say the base shakes a desk and needs a stand or rigid mount. If you buy 8 Nm or more, plan for a wheel stand or a rig.

Console licensing: where the chip lives

On PlayStation the licence sits in the wheel base. Fanatec's pages say this, and that is why the GT DD Pro and ClubSport DD+ work on PS5 while the CSL DD base does not. On Xbox the licence sits in the wheel. That is why the CSL DD Xbox bundle, the Moza R3 Xbox bundle with its ESX wheel and Logitech's Xbox/PC hub exist as separate parts.

Logitech's page says you can pair the RS50 base for PlayStation with the RS Wheel Hub for Xbox. Fanatec sells the same idea with a PlayStation base and an Xbox-licensed rim. Moza's R5 and R9 bundles list PC only on Moza's pages. Moza unveiled the R5S Pro and R16S Ultra for PS5 in September 2026, but has given no price or release date, so we do not recommend waiting for them.

Licensed does not mean every game works. Moza publishes an Xbox games support list (the version we saw is dated July 2024), and several R3 owners say Xbox setup needs a PC for calibration first. Fanatec firmware updates also need a Windows PC, which matters if you have no PC.

Quick releases and wheel choice

The quick release decides which rims you can use later. Fanatec's quick release fits Fanatec rims, and other brands need an adapter. Logitech's RS50 has an integrated quick release with a smaller choice of first-party rims. Moza and Simagic sell large ranges of wheels.

If you want a formula wheel, a rally wheel and a GT wheel on one base, check the rim list for your base before you buy the base.

What is in a bundle

The R5, R3, GT DD Pro and CSL DD bundles include a table clamp, but R5 owners say a desk shakes under a direct drive base, so a stand or rig is the better long-term mount. The RS50 System has no pedals, the ClubSport DD+ base has no wheel or pedals, and the Moza R9 V3 and R12 V2 bundles we checked also leave out pedals.

Pedals matter. The Moza R5 and R3 bundles include SR-P Lite pedals without a clutch, the GT DD Pro bundle includes a two-pedal set, and the Simagic Green Flag bundle includes load cell P700 pedals. Our pedals guide covers the upgrades.

Questions buyers ask

Is the Logitech G923 still sold?+

Yes. Logitech's US store lists the G923 at $299.99 on 19 October 2026, with PlayStation/PC, Xbox/PC and PC-only versions. Logitech also lists the G920/G29 Driving Force wheels and pedals at $229.99.

Which wheel works on PlayStation, Xbox and PC?+

The Logitech RS50 System covers all three if you pair the PlayStation/PC base with the Xbox/PC hub, according to Logitech's page. Fanatec works the same way: a PlayStation-licensed base such as the ClubSport DD+ plus an Xbox-licensed Fanatec wheel.

Is 5 Nm enough?+

For learning, usually yes. Several Moza R5 owners say 5.5 Nm is enough for a desk setup, while some GT DD Pro owners find 5 Nm light, which is why Fanatec's Boost Kit 180 (to 8 Nm) is a common add-on. Moza's R5 is 5.5 Nm peak and the R3 is 3.9 Nm.

Should I buy the Moza R5 or the R5 Pro?+

Moza lists the R5 Racing Bundle at $379 with 5.5 Nm peak and the R5 Pro Bundle at $399 with 6 Nm peak. The R5 Pro is new and has few owner reviews so far, so we based the pick on the R5, where the owner reports are.

Do I need a rig for a direct drive wheel?+

It helps. Several R5 owners say the base shakes a desk and the pedals move unless mounted, so a solid wheel stand or rig is worth planning for, especially above about 5 Nm. The table clamps in the box are the weak point.

Why is the Thrustmaster T598 not on the list?+

We left it out of this list. Several T598 owners report power connector faults that cut the wheel out, and firmware updates need a Windows PC. It is still a strong value PlayStation option, and we compare it in detail in Thrustmaster T598 vs Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro.

Is the Fanatec GT DD Pro stable on GT7 now?+

GT7 update 1.71 (late August 2026) caused force feedback loss and disconnects on some GT DD Pro and CSL DD bases. Fanatec's App v1.5.4.1, released on 3 September 2026, is the fix, and it runs on Windows.
