How We Research and Test

Last updated: 19 October 2026

We are a small team. We cannot drive every circuit, ride every track day or put every wheel, helmet and cockpit through a long-term test. So we are specific about where each recommendation comes from, and we label it. This page explains how we check facts and what each label means.

The three labels on our gear recommendations

Tested by us

Someone on our team, or a named reader-tester, used the product themselves. We say who, for how long and in what setup, and we show our own photos or footage.

Owner-reported

We did not test it. The verdict is built from what real owners have published about it, collected and weighed the way we describe below. We say how many owner reports we read and where they came from.

Spec-checked

We checked the price, availability, compatibility and specifications on the brand’s or a major retailer’s own page, but we have no hands-on or owner evidence worth summarising yet. Gift guides mostly sit here.

We never present an owner-reported or spec-checked pick as if we had tested it ourselves, and we do not invent star ratings.

How we collect owner experience

The best evidence about how a product holds up usually comes from the people who bought it. For owner-reported verdicts we:

  • Read widely. We look at owner discussions on Reddit communities and specialist forums for sim racing, track days and motorcycling, verified-purchase retailer reviews, and long-term reviews that show the product in use.
  • Use the current version. Products get revised (a new firmware, a V2 base, a changed pedal). We only count reports that clearly refer to the version on sale now.
  • Need more than one voice. A strength or problem goes into a verdict only when several independent owners describe it, ideally on more than one site. One-off complaints are left out or clearly marked as one owner’s experience.
  • Filter out noise. We skip posts from brand staff or ambassadors, sponsored reviews, affiliate-driven “top 10” posts and anything that reads as promotion.
  • Record where owners disagree. If owners split (for example on how a cockpit handles a strong direct drive wheel), we say so, along with what seems to explain the split.
  • Quote sparingly and link. When an owner puts something better than we could, we quote a short passage word for word, credit their username and the community, and link to the original post. We never edit a quote or stitch quotes together. Most of the time we summarise in our own words and link to the threads we relied on.

How we check track guides

Track facts, events, bag and cooler rules and weather come from primary sources wherever we can get them: the circuit’s own website, series calendars, official conditions of entry and government data such as the US National Weather Service and NOAA. Each guide lists its sources and the date it was last reviewed. Event dates and gate rules change, so always confirm with the circuit before you travel.

How we check driving experiences and sim racing data

A driving experience, ride-along, school or track day appears on a track guide only if the provider’s own site shows it running at that circuit with a current or upcoming date, or a live booking page. Prices are the lowest the provider publishes and change often.

A racing game or simulator is listed against a track only when the publisher’s own track list, store page or patch notes include it. We list official content only (base game, paid DLC or free updates), never mods. Each section shows the month we last checked.

Prices and availability

Prices are what the brand or a major retailer showed on the date printed on the page, usually in US dollars. They change, especially around sales, so the price you see when you click through may differ.

How we make money

Some links earn us a commission if you buy or book, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide what we recommend or how we label it. The details are in our affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

If something on the site is wrong or out of date, please tell us on our contact page. We fix confirmed errors and update the “last reviewed” date.
