Race Tracks in China
Mainland China's motorsport map is young but growing fast, built almost entirely since the mid-1990s around government-backed circuits rather than grass-roots clubs. Shanghai International Circuit, home of the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix and now a Formula E round, sits at the top, alongside Zhuhai International Circuit, the country's first FIA-grade track and still the base for many Hong Kong and Macau teams. A second tier of purpose-built circuits — Ningbo, Zhejiang (Shaoxing), Ordos, Chengdu Tianfu, Shougang (Qinhuangdao), Zhuzhou and others — hosts the TCR China, China GT and F4 China championships. Temporary street circuits have proved harder to sustain: Beijing, Wuhan and several other cities have tried and abandoned Formula E or touring car street races, while Sanya's Haitang Bay circuit returned to the Formula E calendar in 2026 after a long absence. Hong Kong's Formula E street circuit closed in 2023, but Macau keeps the region's oldest and most storied event, the Guia Circuit's Macau Grand Prix, running every November. Karting is limited to a handful of dedicated tracks, and China has no permanent drag strip, motorcycle speedway oval or major hillclimb.

Track days and driving experiences in China
Track access for enthusiasts is far more limited than in Europe or Japan: most circuits are booked out for professional series, manufacturer test days and corporate driving experiences rather than open public track days. Zhuhai International Circuit and Shanghai Tianma Circuit are the most accessible for club and time-attack days, typically organised through local car clubs or performance-driving schools rather than international booking platforms, with costs generally quoted in RMB per session rather than a flat day rate. Manufacturer-run experience days (Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari) appear periodically at V1 Auto World Tianjin, Ningbo International Speedpark and Shanghai International Circuit. Karting is the easiest entry point, with pay-per-session karting available at the Zhuhai kart track, Shanghai Tianma and Coloane in Macau.

No. Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau have no purpose-built, permanent quarter-mile drag strip; straight-line and drag-style events are run informally rather than at a dedicated venue.
Is Formula E still raced in China?+
Yes, though the venues have shifted. Formula E now races at Shanghai International Circuit and returned to Sanya's Haitang Bay Circuit in June 2026 after several years away; the Beijing Olympic Green and Hong Kong Central Harbourfront street circuits that hosted it earlier have both closed.
Why have so many Chinese street circuits closed?+
Several temporary street races in Beijing, Wuhan, Qingdao, Zhuhai and Shanghai ran for only a few seasons before being discontinued as city governments and series organisers moved events to purpose-built circuits or dropped China rounds altogether; Hong Kong's Formula E street circuit closed after 2023.
