Best Motorcycle Race Suits for Track Days

One-piece or two-piece

A one-piece suit has no waist join. A two-piece suit lets you wear the jacket alone, but it must zip to the trousers for the track. Alpinestars says many organisers allow a two-piece with a full 360-degree zip but rules vary, and tells riders to check before booking.

Published rules we read on 19 October 2026: Trackdaz accepts one- or two-piece suits, and a two-piece must fasten together with a zipper between jacket and trousers. Silverstone requires a complete one-piece leather suit or a two-piece zip-together leather suit with the zip running hip to hip. No Limits Trackdays asks for a full leather one-piece or a fully zipped two-piece, and says the zip must encircle your torso with no gap. 2-Fast accepts a one- or two-piece suit with armour at the elbows, shoulders and knees, and prefers but does not require a zip-together two-piece. We could not read the rules pages for N2 Track Days, Pro6 or MSV.

Leather is not required everywhere. Trackdaz recommends leather and allows high-quality mesh suits case by case. 2-Fast says non-leather suits such as Joe Rocket or Aerostich are acceptable. Silverstone and No Limits ask for leather suits. Racing is stricter: MotoAmerica's 2026 rules require a complete leather suit, or a leather substitute the Technical Director has checked.

EN 17092 classes

EN 17092 is the European standard for motorcycle clothing. webBikeWorld's summary says Class AAA has the highest requirements for impact abrasion and related strength tests, AA is medium duty with lower requirements, and A is light duty with the lowest. Class B is abrasion-only with no armour, and Class C is armour-only garments such as a vest or knee brace. AA and AAA must have armour at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees.

All seven suits here are described as AAA or AA. The two Alpinestars GP Force V2 suits are listed as AA. The other five are listed as AAA, and the retailer listings for the RST suits give the class but do not name the EN number. Ask for the garment's label or certificate if the class matters to you.

None of the organisers we read name a class in their rules. They ask for leather or a zip-together suit and a back protector. A class describes lab test results. It does not predict what happens in a crash.

Back protectors

Organisers want one. Trackdaz asks for a CE-approved foam insert at minimum. Silverstone says all riders must wear a back protector. No Limits says a back protector is compulsory at all circuits and that you can hire one from them. MotoAmerica article 2.12.5 requires one for racers.

EN 1621-2 is the standard for back protectors. SATRA says it has Level 1 and Level 2, and Level 1 needs a mean transmitted force below 18 kN with no single value above 24 kN. SATRA says the lower the force passed through, the better the protection is considered to be, and Level 2 offers a higher level of protection. Check whether your suit includes a protector and which level, because some do not. REV'IT! sells the Argon 3's protector as an add-on, and Alpinestars lists the GP-R7's Level 2 back protector as an optional upgrade.

Sizing, fit and break-in

Alpinestars says a race fit is snug in a tuck, with limited ease off the bike, and that break-in improves comfort after a few rides. It advises measuring chest, waist, hips, arm and inseam, trying the suit with the base layer you will ride in, and testing it with an airbag installed if you use one. Sit on a bike or chair in your riding position. Armour should sit flat and stay put as you tuck and move, and you should be able to look over your shoulder without binding at the shoulders, hips or knees.

REV'IT! publishes chest, waist, hip and inseam measurements for each size, and shows how to measure. Sizes differ by brand. Owners of the RST STG EVO 4 often say it fits snug, and at least four exchanged for a bigger size. Four owners also describe it loosening up after a few rides. If you are between sizes, call a retailer who will advise, and keep the tags on until you have sat on a bike in the suit.

After a crash, Alpinestars says to inspect the suit carefully, because abrasion, burst seams or compressed armour can reduce protection, and to replace it when in doubt.

Leather types

Makers use different hides. Dainese says kangaroo hide is normally around 0.9 mm thick and describes it as thin and light with strong resistance to abrasion, cut and tear. Alpinestars builds the GP Tech V5 from kangaroo and racing bovine leather, and the GP-R7 from 1.3 mm bovine leather. REV'IT! uses buffalo leather on the Argon 3 and says it looks more rugged than cowhide. Cortech lists 1.2 to 1.4 mm cowhide on its Revo Sport Air.

These are maker descriptions of their own materials. No organiser we read asked for a particular hide. Thickness, panel layout and the rated class matter more than the animal.

What airbag-ready means

An airbag-ready suit has stretch or expansion panels, or room, so a vest can inflate under it. It does not include the vest. Alpinestars lists which of its vests each suit accepts. REV'IT! says the Argon 3 is airbag-ready true to size for its Avertum Tech-Air or a Tech5 airbag. In&motion lists racing suits that are compatible with its technology.
