Best Motorcycle Ramps and Tie-Downs

7 picks · Updated 19 October 2026 · Based on 38 owner posts and reviews

Getting a bike into a truck, van or trailer takes three things: a ramp you can trust, straps that hold the bike upright, and something to stop the front wheel moving. This guide covers seven products on sale in the US on 19 October 2026: three ramps, three tie-down products and one wheel chock.

One pick is owner-reported: the MotoTote Deluxe Tie Down Bundle, built from all 38 customer reviews on MotoTote's own site, which carry a positive tilt. The other six are spec-checked: price, stock and specs come from retailer and maker pages.

Pit Posse's wheel chock pages returned a "not available" message on 19 October, so no Pit Posse chock is included. Prices are US dollars from the page named on each pick.

We can’t test everything, so each pick is labelled with where the evidence comes from. How we research and test. Some links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you (disclosure).

Haul-Master 1500 lb. Capacity, 90 in. x 12 in. Arched Aluminum Ramps, Set of 2

$199.99

Two 90 in arched ramps for $199.99. Harbor Freight says the arch is for equipment with low ground clearance or a long wheelbase, and lists motorcycles among the uses. At 90 in they give a gentler slope into a pickup bed than a short folding ramp.

1,500 lb total, 750 lb per ramp
Size
90 in long, 12 in wide, each
Weight
25.71 lb for the set

Arched, does not fold
Tread
Embossed anti-skid holes
Warranty

Best for
Riders who want a long, gentle slope and have room to store 90 in ramps.
Worth knowing
They do not fold, so a pair is 90 in long in the garage. The page gives no motorcycle loading guidance beyond naming motorcycles as a use, and the warranty is 90 days.

2. Best budget folding ramp

Black Widow Aluminum Folding Arched Single Runner Motorcycle Ramp (AFL-9012)

$104.99

A single-runner arched ramp that folds in half and weighs 14.5 lb. The page says the arch gives engine and tailpipe clearance and that the serrated rungs grip in any weather. It is the cheapest pick that gives you a 7 ft 5 in ramp.

Best for
Riders with a helper who need a light ramp that stores in a boot or truck bed.
Worth knowing
The page says it is not intended for riding up because it is too narrow to put your feet down, and recommends at least two people for single-runner ramps. 750 lb leaves less margin for a large adventure bike and gear.

4. Best tie-down kit for a hitch carrier

MotoTote Deluxe Tie Down Bundle

$149

A matched pair of ratcheting soft-loop front straps and a ratcheting rear tire strap, sold for MotoTote carriers. MotoTote publishes both working load limit and breaking load for each strap, which most sellers here do not. Owners praise the quality and the speed of loading and unloading.

What owners report · from 38 owner posts and reviews we read

  • Well made, easy to use and quick to rig (many owners)
  • Rear TireSling keeps the rear tire seated and is praised by name (several owners)
  • Several owners compare the quality favorably with cheaper straps, including Harbor Freight's
  • One owner reports carabiner retention levers that fell apart out of the box

5. Best handlebar anchor for wide bars

Canyon Dancer Bar Harness II

$33.95

A padded harness that slips over the grips and gives your straps a place to attach that is high and wide, away from paint and plastic. Canyon Dancer says the closed-end design stops the cups creeping inward onto bodywork, and that they are sized for the fattest grips. All four sizes showed as available on the ShopBMWMotorcycle page.

Sizes
Short (bars to 28 in), Sport/Standard (32 in), X-Wide (36 in), XX-Wide (40 in)
Cups
Injection-molded polycarbonate with stainless steel D-ring lay-ins

Best for
Riders of bikes with flat or wide bars, adventure bikes and cruisers.
Worth knowing
The 1,800 lb figure is a break-test result, not a working load limit. One reviewer on MotoTote's page for the harness says the straps rubbed the fairing of a BMW. Clip-on sportbikes may suit handlebar cuffs better.

Ancra International Classic Tie Downs (pair)

$29

A pair of 1 in cam-buckle straps from a well-known strap maker at $29. Sportbike Track Gear lists them in stock. Cam buckles are hand-tightened, which MotoTote's guide says gives enough holding power for most bikes when properly tightened.

How to choose

Working load limit is not the same as break strength

Working load limit (WLL) is the most a strap should carry in use. Break strength is the load at which it fails. US federal cargo rules for commercial vehicles say the WLL of a tiedown is the lowest WLL of any of its components, including the tensioner, or of the anchor point it attaches to (49 CFR 393.108). So a strong strap on a weak hook or anchor is only as good as the hook.

Sellers quote different numbers, so compare like with like. MotoTote publishes both: the SafeLoop strap is 1,130 lb WLL and 3,400 lb breaking load, the TireSling 645 lb and 1,940 lb, and the HandleCuff 1,390 lb and 4,170 lb. That is about three to one. Ancra's Classic and Lites pages list a "rated assembly strength" of 1,200 lb and 1,000 lb but no WLL. Canyon Dancer says break testing shows its Bar Harness II withstands over 1,800 lb per side. Vortex lists "weight capacity" figures of 770 lb to 990 lb on its straps and 880 lb on its handlebar cuffs without saying whether that is a WLL.

For commercial loads, 49 CFR 393.106(d) says the combined WLL of the tiedowns must be at least half the weight of the cargo. Private haulers are not bound by it, but it gives a yardstick. A 448 lb bike needs 224 lb of aggregate WLL, which four straps rated at 645 lb clear by a wide margin. Look for straps with a stated WLL, and check them for cuts and fraying before each trip.

Ramp length and angle for lowered sportbikes

A sportbike has a long wheelbase and little ground clearance, so the sharpest point is where the ramp meets the deck. Yamaha lists the 2026 YZF-R1 with a 55.3 in wheelbase and 5.1 in of maximum ground clearance. These next figures are our own arithmetic from those two numbers, not a test, and they assume a straight ramp and a flat deck.

A 90 in ramp to a 30 in deck is about 19.5 degrees. With the bike straddling the crest, the crest sits about 4.7 in above the line between the two wheel contact points, close to the 5.1 in clearance. A 36 in deck gives about 23.6 degrees and 5.7 in, which is more than the listed clearance, so the bike would touch down without an arch or a lower deck. A 56 in ramp on a 30 in deck would be about 32 degrees.

The arch on the Haul-Master and Black Widow ramps is there to cut that crest. Black Widow says the arch gives maximum engine and tailpipe clearance. Neither Discount Ramps nor Harbor Freight publishes a loading angle or maximum height for these ramps. Discount Ramps offers a calculator that takes wheelbase, ground clearance and loading height and returns a minimum ramp length.

How to strap a bike: what makers say

These steps come from MotoTote's setup guide for its hitch carriers. For a trailer or truck bed, follow your motorcycle maker's owner's manual, which may name specific anchor points.

Attach the front straps before loading. With the bike on the carrier, clip and tighten the strap nearest the vehicle until the bike can lean and support itself, then the outside strap. Alternate until the bike is centered. MotoTote says to compress the front suspension slightly and that there is no need to bottom out the forks.

The rear strap has a different job. MotoTote says it is not meant to compress the suspension. It keeps the rear tire seated in the track so it cannot bounce, hop or shift. Stop after the first 10 to 20 miles to check that everything is still tight, and check again on long trips.

For the front attachment, MotoTote lists soft loops that wrap the handlebars, triple clamp or another sturdy part, which keep metal hooks off paint. For sportbikes with clip-ons it recommends its HandleCuff, which wraps around the grips. Canyon Dancer says its harness keeps tie-downs away from expensive paint and plastic bodywork.

Single runner, full width, and riding up

A single-runner ramp is one narrow lane for the wheel. Discount Ramps says its single-runner Black Widow ramps are not intended for riding up because they are too narrow to put your feet down, and recommends two people. Harbor Freight's FAQ for a tri-fold ramp says a vehicle should be pushed up or down while you guide it, and not ridden.

Full-width and paired ramps give the front wheel more room. Whichever you choose, fasten the top of the ramp to the vehicle with a safety strap or chain, and keep the slope as gentle as the vehicle height allows.

Do you need a wheel chock?

A chock holds the front wheel upright so the bike stands without help while you tighten straps. MotoTote's carriers have a built-in front chock. For a truck bed or trailer you add your own. Fixed chocks are bolted to the floor. The Condor Pit Stop is a folding, self-locking chock that also works as a stand and fits wheels from 80 mm to 220 mm wide, which is why it costs far more.

Questions buyers ask

What working load limit do I need?+

US rules for commercial cargo say the combined WLL of the tiedowns must be at least half the cargo's weight (49 CFR 393.106(d)). For a 448 lb bike that is 224 lb. Look for straps with a stated WLL, and remember a strap is only as strong as its weakest part.

Is break strength the same as working load limit?+

No. Break strength is the load that makes the strap fail. WLL is the most it should carry in use. MotoTote's published figures are about one third of the breaking load.

How many straps should I use?+

MotoTote's guide uses two front straps, one on each side of the bars, plus a rear tire strap. Check your bike maker's manual and the trailer or carrier maker's instructions.

How long should the ramp be?+

Longer is gentler. A 90 in ramp to a 30 in deck is about 19.5 degrees by our arithmetic, and to a 36 in deck about 23.6 degrees. Arched ramps help low sportbikes clear the crest.

Can I ride a bike up a single-runner ramp?+

Discount Ramps says its single-runner Black Widow ramps are not intended for riding up and recommends two people. Harbor Freight's tri-fold ramp FAQ says to push vehicles up and down while guiding them.

Should the front suspension be compressed?+

MotoTote says to compress the front suspension slightly and that the forks do not need to bottom out. The rear strap should keep the tire seated and is not meant to compress the suspension.

Soft loops or hooks on the bike?+

MotoTote says soft loops protect painted surfaces and keep metal hooks off components. Direct hooks are fine only where the bike has strong, dedicated tie-down points that will not damage anything.
